Title: Using a Google Web Search Analysis to Assess the Utility of ChatGPT in Total Joint Arthroplasty
Abstract:
Rapid technological advancements have led to the development of artificial intelligence in medicine. Machine learning shows promise in improving treatment decision-making and patient outcomes. A recent study used a Google web search analysis to evaluate the utility of ChatGPT, a novel machine learning tool, in total joint arthroplasty. The study compared the FAQs and answers generated by a Google web search and ChatGPT.
Methods:
- A Google web search was performed with search terms "total knee replacement" and "total hip replacement."
- The first 10 FAQs were extracted, along with the source of the associated website for each question.
- ChatGPT was used to generate answers to the same search terms.
Results:
- 5 of 20 questions were similar between Google web search and ChatGPT.
- 13 of 20 FAQs were provided by commercial websites for the Google web search.
- 15 of 20 questions were answered by government websites for ChatGPT.
- 11 of 20 FAQs provided different numerical responses between Google web search and ChatGPT.
Conclusion:
A comparison of the FAQs by a Google web search and ChatGPT revealed heterogenous questions and responses for open and discrete questions. ChatGPT may be a useful tool for patients and healthcare professionals in the future, but its ability to provide credible information needs further verification.
